Body temperature is one of the most important factors influencing the performance of scat dogs. If the dog gets too hot, deployment must be terminated – to protect the dogs.

To best protect the health of ACK's scat dogs, their temperature is checked regularly in the morning. Temperature is an indicator of health. Traditional canine temperature has been measured with a rectal thermometer, which is not always comfortable for the dog.

Modern microchip transponders not only allow for unambiguous identification but also easy and more frequent measurement of body temperature – even during a search.

The new technology makes the daily work of the handlers easier and helps to detect over-exertion early on.

We send a huge thank you to Dr. Birgit Lidolt from Orthodoc in Austria. Dr.

Lidolt traveled to Kenya in March to implant the special microchips (sponsored by Dr. Thomas Angerer/Tierarztpraxis Fügen). The two matching readers (sponsored by Orthodoc) ensure that ACK's handlers can check the temperature flexibly at any time.
