This year the auction will focus on all things DOGS. Our “Dogs Saving Cheetahs” and “Ginger’s Hope” programs strive to promote healthy pets.

Scat Dogs Saving Cheetahs – Scat detection dogs are trained to locate cheetah fecal material as a part of the national survey. In collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service, Cheetah Conservation Fund and the University of Nairobi, genetic sequencing confirms connectivity and assists in reduction of illegal trade. Conservation detection dogs are trained and managed from our field base in Samburu at a cost of about $125,000 annually: We currently have committed funds of 100,000 thus remain with $25,000 to

raise.

Ginger’s Hope: Dogs have been household pets for years, yet improvement in dog care is often substandard in rural communities. Using the detection dogs as a model, and the interactions of staff in the community, Gingers hope raises awareness of canine diseases and prevention as well as responsible pet husbandry. While nearly 2000 people die annually from rabies, inflicted through being bitten by an animal carrying the virus, other diseases such as canine distemper are devastating to the domestic-wild animal populations. Vaccination of domestic pets can eradicate human rabies and can assist in controlling the spread of diseases between populations. Ginger’s Hope costs $75,000 annually: with 50,000 secured and $25,000 yet to raise.
